It was a winter morning. The sun had started shining softly. I too had stood in the sun. After all, it was winter and standing or sitting in the winter sun has its own fun. I have heard that morning sunlight is very important for health. People who are not able to take sunlight in their daily routine also have health related problems and after that they have to visit the doctor and take out time and money on medicines and treatment. It is better to take out some of your time and stand in the sun. That is why I too stand in the morning sun, even if it is for a short while.
That day too, when I was standing in the sun, two birds came hopping and playing pranks with each other. These birds were small cute sparrows which are now on the verge of extinction. But what about us, we do not have time from our own problems to look after our family, pay attention to our job or engage in social and natural service. Who has that much time? Anyway, what is in the control of people like you and me. We are neither running any government, nor are we builders who clear forests, nor are we industrialists, nor are we any big leaders. We are those who neither spoil the environment nor save it. Now without thinking much on this issue, let us come to the topic of sparrows.
So my eyes fell on these cute sparrows who were sometimes drinking water from the road, sometimes picking up some things with their beaks and dropping them again, and sometimes playing pranks with each other. In that winter season and in the mild sunlight, the hopping and frolicking of those birds here and there looked very pleasing. Or who knows, it is only me who likes all this.
Looking at those birds, I started thinking what kind of life they have. Is our life better than theirs? We protect ourselves in every kind of weather, be it winter, summer or rain. We have almost every kind of facility from living house to medical. But these birds have nothing like that. No one knows when they will be hunted. However, they are very cautious. No one knows what havoc will befall them in which season. For example, if a very strong storm comes, then there is no way of knowing about their nests, eggs and their lives. There is no trust in birds stronger and bigger than them. One cannot tell when they will attack their nests or hunt them. If seen, there are many problems in their lives too. Still, they live every moment with pride and playfulness but are always cautious too.
One special thing about them is that they remain connected to nature. They fly in the open sky, sometimes on trees, sometimes around ponds, sometimes they keep wandering here and there. They eat whatever they get and make a living for themselves and their children. But they never face stress, over thinking, BP, caste disputes, property disputes. Perhaps they know more than us that as long as they are alive, they are trying to live their life, that is, after trying, they are managing their life in the best way they can, being alert and always being playful and happy. When life itself will end, what difference will it make to us what is happening in the world, what should happen, etc. As long as there is life, we live by doing our work. After all, whatever happens, as long as there is life, we have to live and one day we have to die anyway, so why should we live by dying from now itself.
If we humans are successful, we mostly do not celebrate for our happiness, we celebrate to show it to the world or find some other way to show off. Otherwise, a person can be happy by eating his favorite food, singing or listening to his favorite song, visiting his favorite place.
On the contrary, if we fail, people will become so sad and disappointed as if the world is not going to work anymore, everything is over.
Whether we are successful or not, but after a certain time we stop living in the true sense. The reasons behind doing this are our responsibilities, employment, our ego etc. Mostly we fulfill our responsibilities, live according to our employment and run our body on medicines.
Has anyone ever seen a bird overthinking, going to a medical store and asking for medicine? Ever filing a case with documents? Ever arguing in a panchayat? Ever gulping down alcohol from a bottle in the name of forgetting its sorrow? Have you ever seen them doing weird rituals for different reasons? You might not have seen them because whatever they are, they live their life as nature has made them and accept whatever has been given to them.
Let us accept that nature has made them different and has made us different in almost every way. Our needs, our way of living is different from them. But one thing is that if we want, we can live our lives happily without harming nature. We can live without falling prey to many diseases like BP, sugar, over thinking, all the evils of worldliness, just like these birds are living hopping and strutting despite all the problems and threats to their existence.
